At Sparendaam Court…

Jessica Xavier arraigned on causing death by dangerous driving charge
POPULAR singing sensation Jessica Xavier, 27, was yesterday arraigned before Sparendaam Magistrate Alex Moore for allegedly causing death by dangerous driving.
It was alleged that on February 26, 2012, Xavier drove a vehicle in a reckless manner, thereby causing the death of Vangaskar Ramcharitar on the Mon Repos Public Road, East Coast Demerara.
She was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.
The defendant was represented by Counsel Marcel Bobb, who refused to give any details pertaining to his client. Prosecuting for the state was Police Sergeant, Bernard Brown.
Magistrate Moore took into consideration that the defendant had never previously been charged or convicted of a similar offence, and also that she needed to attend to her work and other responsibilities on a daily basis, when he put Xavier on self-bail and requested her to return to court on April 30, 2012.
After the court hearing, this newspaper was told by a person who wished to remain anonymous that the now deceased man had sustained extremely serious injuries which were beyond the doctors’ control, and had lost a great amount of blood.
Claiming to know the deceased very well, the informant alleged that Ms Xavier was driving at a fast rate of speed, lost control of her vehicle, and it was sad that Ramcharitar had to be a victim of her carelessness.
