Absence of friend puts other on fraud charge
LEON Williams, of Second Avenue, Bartica, appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore at Sparendaam Court, East Coast Demerara, yesterday, charged with obtaining credit by fraud. Particulars of the offence said, on February 26, with intent to defraud, he hired Donald London’s taxi for $1,000 and, at the time, had no means to pay.
The defendant claimed he came down from the interior and took the hire to go to the home of a friend who had said he will pay but, when he got there, the person was not at home and London took him to the police station.
The magistrate changed the defendant’s plea, from guilty to not guilty and put him on $5,000 bail until March 29.
