SECURITY guard Samuel Charles, of Buxton appeared before Magistrate Nayasha Williams-Hatmin yesterday, on a simple larceny charge. At Vigilance Court, on East Coast Demerara, as well, he was charged with stealing, from Horizon Company, a number of steels rods, worth $1M, on February 12.
It is alleged that he was on his evening shift at the company’s premises when he committed the offence and he pleaded guilty.
Charles told the court he did not know that the rods were not to be taken away, as his colleague whom he relieved did not tell him so and he just decided to take those he saw lying there.
Police Corporal Clement, prosecuting, said the defendant has faced similar charges previously but Charles maintained it was his first and made an application for bail, to which the prosecutor successfully objected.
The case was transferred to Sparendaam court, on East Coast Demerara, too, for February 29.
Meantime, Charles will be remanded to prison.
