Putting partisan politics aside…

Faith Harding hopes to work closely with President Ramotar
– believes women ought to be more involved in the country’s affairs

FORMER Executive Member of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), Dr. Faith Harding is hoping to work closely with President Donald Ramotar and his Government.
She said, Wednesday, her hope is to get involved in working along with women and children and encouraging women leadership, putting partisan politics aside.
Harding, who, recently, disclosed her resignation from the Central Executive Committee of the PNCR expressed her interest in making Guyana one of the developed countries of the Caribbean region.
She noted the actions of the previous Bharrat Jagdeo Administration and urged the current President to follow the footsteps of his predecessor, while charting his own course.
Harding observed that large areas in the interior are lying in waste when they could be put to use for the good health of people. She said she is very happy with what is happening in the country and predicted this is going to be a very significant year in the development of the nation.
“We have got critical economic activities that are about to just take off; oil for instance, as you are seeing now,” she remarked.
Harding said her quest to work along with President Ramotar is not for political reasons but, rather, to promote unity among Guyanese and foster development.
She admitted that she was taken aback when she realised that the Guyana Government is providing training for young women and offering them stipends and travel allowances for the duration.
Harding disclosed that, presently, she is involved with several young ladies in Region 6 (East Berbice/Corentyne) who are conducting various activities and would engage them in fish farming, poultry rearing and the establishment of an information technology (IT) and a day care centre.
The former PNC Minister said her initiative targeting women is aimed at empowering them with the tools and skills they need to become economically viable.
Such activities will also assist women and young girls to develop self-confidence, she said, maintaining that she is still a member of the PNCR and is prepared to work with the party if it decides to undertake big community projects and the same goes for the Government.
“I want to end the divisiveness that I see, politically, in this country. I want us all to get along and know that it is the people to whom we are reaching out to develop our nation and make those resources work for them and their children,” she said.

MEANINGFUL PART
About other developments she would like to see under President Ramotar, she declared her intentions to play a meaningful part in them, once they are for the betterment of the Guyanese people.
A hydropower dam, high speed railways, better roads, development in interior locations, the return of the production of cocoa and coffee in the hinterland, wasted land converted into resourceful spacing for food production not only for Guyana but other parts of the world are some of the programmes and realities she would like to experience.
She said those are things she wants to discuss with President Ramotar, towards really moving the country forward with the best women in the lead.
Harding said she does not have to be President to advance his schemes with efficiency and effectiveness but being warm and engaging can make the youth and young women feel they have a piece of the pie and work for the nation.
She criticised both the governing party and the PNCR, stating that they have failed to give women meaningful roles in the management of the country and functioning of key committees and agencies.
Among other things, Harding declared there should have been a female Speaker of the National Assembly.
