Jailed for stealing GWI sewage cover

MAGISTRATE Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday sentenced Christopher Macey to 18 months imprisonment  for stealing a Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) sewage cover.
He was convicted of committing the crime on January 22, when he stole property valued $75,000.
Macey (no address given) pleaded guilty and begged the court for a light sentence, claiming that he found the booty on the road and took it to a scrap metal dealer.
Police Sergeant Gordon Mansfield, prosecuting, said a security guard attached to Body Max Gym, on Croal Street, was on duty when he discovered the cover missing.
The Prosecutor said the guard made investigations at a scrap metal yard in Sussex Street, Charlestown, also in Georgetown, where the caretaker pointed out the person who took the cover there and Macey was immediately arrested.
