After burglary defendant complaint…

Court orders investigation into police brutality involving penis
ACTING Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday ordered court prosecutor Lionel Harvey to investigate an allegation of police brutality involving a burglary defendant’s penis.
Norbert Sutherland, 22, of Lot 72 Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, had complained that, because he refused to give information, a policeman caused a vein in his penis to burst.
The defendant  offered to show his injury but the magistrate said she did not want him to strip in court. However, the accusation is a very serious one and she instructed Sergeant Harvey to have it investigated and drawn to the attention of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Sutherland pleaded not guilty to having, between January 11 and 12, broken and entered the shop of Trevor Sawyers and stolen  merchandise worth $253,100.
He said he was walking on a street when the police stopped him and asked about a man who sells cannabis (marijuana) and the policeman conducted a search on him and found a pornographic DVD.
The defendant said it was then the officer pulled down his pants and jerked his penis.
“Your Worship, the officer pulled my penis with a vengeance and caused a vein to burst and now my nature is gone,” Sutherland lamented.
He was put on $100,000 bail until February 7.
