A COUPLE appeared in court yesterday, charged with forging a will and uttering the forgery. Afeena Hussain, 18 and Reeaz Manjoor, 19, of Lot 45 North East Grove, East Bank Demerara, made their appearance before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry but were not required to plead to the indictable charges.
Particulars of one offence said, on September 2, 2011, at Maraj Building, in Charlotte Street, Georgetown, with intent to defraud, they offered a forged will to Cynthia Bharat, purporting to be that of Afzal Hussain, knowing it to be false.
The other joint allegation against them is that they forged the will purporting to be that of Afzal Hussain.
An additional charge said Afeena Hussain, on October 31, 2011, uttered the forgery to Mohamed Ali, purporting it to be that of Afzal Hussain.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Mohamed Ali, for the defence, said Hussain’s mother made the accusation but her daughter is not the only beneficiary and has no reason to forge the testament.
The lawyer said Manjoor was only a witness to the document and he was granted $100,000 bail while surety for Hussain was set at $300,000, until February 7.
