NEIL Mc Bean, 22 and Shellon Taylor 23 (no addresses given) were each sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined $75,000 for unlawful possession of a gun. The duo appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded guilty to the joint charge, which stated that, on January 13, they had a .32 pistol without being the holder of a firearm licence.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said Taylor reported having the weapon and giving it to Mc Bean.
The prosecutor said the police went to where Mc Bean was and found him with the gun and both defendants were arrested.
Harvey said Albert Benjamin, a third man, was also arrested but he did not appear in court and an arrest warrant was issued for him.
Before the sentencing, Mc Bean told the court that Taylor went to his home and offered him the gun for $10,000, as she wanted money to go into the interior.
He said, to help out Taylor, he took the weapon and gave her the cash although it was of no use to him as it had no ammunition in it.
When it was Taylor’s turn to speak, she said Benjamin requested her to keep the gun for two days and, after that period had passed, she took it to Mc Bean.
She said Mc Bean wanted it and she gave him because it was no use to her, but Benjamin returned for it and Mc Bean refused to give her back.
Taylor claimed Mc Bean told her that he had already purchased ammunition for the gun and he could not return it.
The woman said she then went to the police and made a report.
