I FULLY agree with a letter carried in your newspaper yesterday under the headline: Georgetown needs an IMC. This committee is needed because it seems that City Hall cannot cope with the many problems facing the city, the greatest among them being the pile-up of garbage which is becoming a common sight all over the city these days. I cannot understand that with all the interventions by central government in the past, there are still situations in the city which cannot be countenanced by decent people.
The Mayor must understand that Guyanese have come a long way, and understand when danger looms, as is the present case of the garbage in almost every corner of the city, especially in the vicinity of the main thoroughfares.
This situation is becoming scandalous, and the Mayor should act quickly to return Georgetown to a healthy city. Sitting on the pedestal, making fancy speeches and waiting for a windfall will not help.
The people need a clean and healthy city. It is not fair for central Government to continue bailing out City Hall from its financial woes.
If those who were put to run the affairs of the city in an efficient manner are unable to do so, then they should bailout and make way for others.
It is time to get a clean city.
I support call for interim management committee
