Berbice Cricket Board will work towards bringing the game to a high level

The Berbice Cricket Board in 2012 would be working over board in its continued effort to lift the game to an all-time high level. The Board at a Special Events Committee Meeting on Wednesday 11th January, 2012, planned a series of activities that we are confident will be achieved with hard work and dedication. The Berbice Cricket Board has set itself a target of 17 cricket tournaments for 2012 as follows:
(a)   Under-13 – Inter-Club & Inter-zone
(b)   Under-15 – Inter-Club & Inter-zone
(c)   Under-17 – Inter-Club & Inter-zone
(d)   Under-19 – Inter-Club & Inter-zone
(e)   Under-21 – Inter-Club
(f)   Female – Inter-Club
(g)   Second Division – Inter-Club, 20/20 and possibly an Intermediate Tournament.
(h)   First Division – 20/20, 50-Overs Knock-out, 50-over Round Robin and possibly a two-day Inter-Club.

The Berbice Cricket Board has also set itself a target of 75 off-the- field activities for 2012 after surpassing its target of 70 in 2011. These activities will include the Annual Cricket Academy, Coaching clinics, Social Etiquette Seminars, Tribute to Heroes, Charity, Educational, Annual Awards Ceremony among others.
Since 2008, the Berbice Cricket Board has completed close to 300 off-the- field programmes and in the process has transformed itself and the face of Berbice cricket forever.
Mr. Editor, the Board has achieved this despite numerous efforts to frustrate and even steamroll our work. This includes the Guyana Cricket Board’s decision to stop paying the Office Administrator while continuing to do so in Essequibo and also the non-payment of any Guyana Cricket Board subvention to the Berbice Cricket Board for 2011. The Berbice Cricket Board has achieved success by working as a team and through the support of numerous sponsors and donors.
Mr. Editor, the Berbice Cricket Board would be grateful if you can allow us to use your letters column to urge members of the national and Berbice business sector to join hands with Guyana’s most dynamic and successful Cricket Board. We would especially like to urge Berbice-born, Georgetown- based businessmen to support the development of cricket in The Ancient County.
Below are the areas in which the Berbice Cricket Board would be grateful for sponsorship:
(a)   A comprehensive junior coaching programme for Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, Under-19 and female cricketers.
(b)   The construction and erection of a huge billboard featuring the photographs of the 15 (fifteen) Berbicians who have played Test cricket.
(c)    Sponsorship of an Under-13 Inter-club Tournament, Female Inter-club, Second Division 20/20 and Intermediate, and First Division, two-day competitions.

The management of the Berbice Cricket Board would like to assure all sponsors that all funds will be accounted for and used for its intended purposes. The company/individual would also benefit from the Berbice Cricket Board’s very active Public Relations Programme.
Interested persons who want to be part of the rapid development of Berbice Cricket can contact the Berbice Cricket Board office on Telephone No: 333 2375, or Mr. Anil Beharry on  623 6875 or Mr. Hilbert Foster on 337 4562.
