Three accused make Court appearance, remanded overnight
POLICE have charged three men with the armed robbery, committed last Monday night at the Hollywood Bollywood nightclub on Lamaha Street, Newtown, Georgetown. Rayon Hing, Damion Boston and Kerwin Higgins (no addresses given) appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, on indictable charges.
Particulars of one offence said, on January 2, the trio, being armed with guns, robbed Rakesh Narine of one cell phone valued $49,000 and $60,000, property of Irene Gooding.
Another charge said they robbed Randy Narine of one cell phone valued $5,000 and $105,000, belonging to Gooding.
One other charge accused them of robbing Wendy Beckles of items worth $65,000, property of Gooding and a fourth offence alleged against them is, that they robbed Gooding herself, of gold jewellery valued $1.5M and other belongings with a total value of $2.2M.
Police Inspector, Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said six gunmen invaded the place and robbed the owner, Gooding, and her employees and police, on arrival, found one of the robbers in the surroundings.
The prosecutor said the others made good their escape but, based on further investigation, two more, except Higgins, were arrested and identified on an identification parade.
Defence Counsel for Higgins, Mr. Glen Hanoman requested reasonable bail for him, stating that the taxi driver had his car stolen and went to report the theft to the police station.
Telford informed that Higgins made the report after the robbery was committed.
The men were remanded to prison overnight and will make another court appearance today.
