More witnesses testify at PI into terrorist charges

THE preliminary inquiry (PI) into the multiple charges against Colin Jones, Randy Mars, Basil Morgan, Anthony Watson and Jahfar Sampson, following terrorist activities in Georgetown, continued before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday. Three new witnesses gave evidence and were cross- examined by defence counsel, Nigel Hughes and George Thomas.
Moheen Gafoor, the owner of Auto Tech, a car rental service, who first testified, is to return and give further testimony.
Police Lance Corporal, Desmond Johnny and Sergeant Burnett, a bomb expert attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), also took the witness stand.
The five accused, who are charged with murder, attempted murder and setting fire to a public building, will be back in court tomorrow.
They made their first court appearance in 2010 after the arson at the Ministry of Health, in Brickdam; attempts to burn Richard Ishmael Secondary School and the Supreme Court building as well as the gun attack on Brickdam Police Station, all in Georgetown, during July 2009.
