BERBICE legal practitioners have expressed concern over the inordinate delays, in the passing of land titles by the Land Registry. The lawyers claim the excessively long wait will result in applicants being unable to access loans from commercial lending institutions or even proceed with the sale of properties.
The complainants are peeved over the backlog which they say numbers hundreds, dating as far back as five years ago.
In addition, this newspaper was informed that files were misplaced and irreplaceable documents, which were left with the court, are missing.
As a consequence, they are calling on the relevant authorities to mount an inquiry into the functioning of the Registry.
Meanwhile, the Berbice Bar Association met with Registrar of Lands, Ms. Juliet Sattaur, in a bid to address their concerns, but, according to a member, no progress has resulted.
