WEST Coast housewife, Bhagwandeen Gangadeen, of Cornelia Ida, couldn’t help but smile Friday when she received the keys to a brand new Toyota Allion motor car. The occasion was a presentation ceremony held by ANSA McAl Trading at its Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara offices for winners of the ‘Ariel Clean Sweep – win a car not a cart’ promotion in which the vehicle Gangadeen won was the grand prize.
Though she cannot drive, the 49-year-old mother of two told the media that in the interim, her nephew will do the driving until she learns. She said, too, that when she first got the call apprising her about her good fortune, she thought it was just a prank, as she’d sent in over 10 entries to ANSA McAl but never won anything before.
To this day, she still can’t believe her luck and is very elated about the turn of events.
At Friday’s ceremony, presentations were also made to four of the 40 winners of 20-inch flat-screen television sets, and the 20 persons who each won themselves a $20,000-worth hamper.
As ANSA McAl Managing Director, Ms. Beverly Harper observed, the exercise made her feel like Santa Claus with the spirit of Christmas all around us.
Noting that the contest was “a clean sweep countrywide” and a huge success, Harper said they managed to attract thousands of entrants in a rivalry that started on September 8 and ended on December 13.
Present at the ceremony also was Company Public Relations Officer Darshnie Yussuf.
