A holiday with a strong, universal message
THE People’s Progressive Party extends best wishes to all Guyanese on this joyous occasion of Christmas. This is a holiday that promotes goodwill and peace among all humankind. It is a universal message that exists across all cultures.
It is of particular significance to our country today, having just emerged from General and Regional elections. In our multi-ethnic and multi-cultural society, this message resonates with all peace-loving and democratic forces in Guyana.
At this time, the PPP once more wishes all Guyanese the very best.
Take time to celebrate our achievements, our diversity and togetherness.
A Merry Christmas to all!

A celebration of God’s exalted promise
JESUS’S humble birth in a manger two thousand years ago fulfilled God’s exalted promise to bring peace on earth and goodwill toward men.
Jesus’s glorious work in an obscure country with a small band of disciples such a long time ago, transformed the world and continues to change our lives every day. Christians – through thought, word and work – exemplify Christ’s message of mercy and redemption. They make Christmas a special, sacred season. Guyanese of all religions have also been inspired by the season’s spirit of charity and sense of social responsibility. We see ordinary people everywhere reaching out with compassion and generosity to help their brothers and sisters in need.
We call to mind during this season the aged, our children, the poor and other vulnerable citizens. We remember our soldiers and servicemen who will spend Christmas separated from their families away from home, on our borders and in far-flung regions. We recognize the service of our technicians, nurses and other workers who maintain our public utilities and public health services so that others could be safe and comfortable.
Christmas is a time to rejoice in Jesus Christ’s miraculous birth and his marvelous message of hope. It is also a time to rekindle the Guyanese spirit of goodwill and to be grateful for the service and sacrifice of others. We join other Guyanese to make Christmas this year a day of “good tidings of great joy.”
Happy Christmas to all!

A time of deep introspection in nation’s interest
THE People’s National Congress Reform wishes to extend sincere greetings to all Guyanese for a peaceful and enjoyable Christmas. Our people have been able to overcome the many challenges faced during 2011.
Fortunately, the fabric of our Nation has been held together, due mainly to the maturity and resilience of our people. During this season, therefore, we need to acknowledge the powerful nature of the Christian message which preaches tolerance, patience, love and understanding. This is the message that the founder of Christianity has left as a legacy to all Mankind and from which all Guyanese have benefited and by which they have enriched their lives.
Guyana, being a multi-religious and multi-ethnic society, is in a unique position to benefit from the teachings of the religions of all of its peoples. Christmas is, therefore, not only for members of the Christian community but for all Guyanese in a very real sense.
There is abundant evidence that the teachings of Christianity and its practices have influenced the lives of all of our people. In other words, this country has seen the benefits of the policy of allowing all religions to flower in Guyana. Christian beliefs go well beyond the religious, and have had a notable effect on all aspects of life in Guyana, in terms of the production of Art, Literature, our way of living, and our objective of building a harmonious and tolerant society.
Even though it is a time of joy and festivity, Christmas also provides an important moment in the year for reflection and resolution. The PNCR hopes that the Guyanese people, even as they enjoy this wonderful season, would find space and time in their personal lives to think about the direction that their community and the country is taking, and the problems being faced, and to make resolutions to actively contribute to their solution and development.
Such a commitment will be necessary as Guyana forges ahead in this new political dispensation, and seeks to fulfil its long deferred rendezvous with development, peace and progress.
The Party wishes to note here that it is often at this time that the nation comes together in harmony to celebrate the birth of Christ. It only remains for the Party to wish all Guyanese a Happy Christmas as they consume their pepper-pot, garlic pork, ginger beer, black cake and all the other delectables that make Christmas not only a Christian festival but an occasion for a cultural display of this nation.
It must not be forgotten too that music at this time has its own special appeal, as well as the dancing of the members of the masquerade band.
Happy Christmas to all Guyanese!

T’is the season of goodwill to all men
WE OFTEN hear it said and see it written throughout this season. The Alliance For Change invites the nation to reflect on this maxim.
The people of Guyana have spoken and they have demanded that their leaders adopt this approach in their actions in directing the affairs of the nation not just for the season but for all times.
The leaders must yield to the directive of the people and act in accordance, in this season, in 2012 and thereafter.
Amidst the food, fun and jollification associated with the world famous Guyanese Christmas season the Party wishes peace, discretion and brotherhood upon and for all Guyanese.
We must keep cognizant of the reason for this season and take stock of the salient lessons associated with the life and teachings of Jesus.
Goodwill to all men in this country will only be real and justified when all Guyanese are treated with respect, decency and are the beneficiaries of equal rights and justice.

Christmas: A festival of Peace
THE General and Regional Elections, which saw actual polling on Monday, November 28, 2011, last, brought out the best and the proverbial worst in many Guyanese.
The “best” could be defined as a significantly high turnout of electors who were orderly and law-abiding. The polling was relatively peaceful, unlike other places in the world. The “worst”, however, was definitely the acrimony, the suspicions, allegations and protest-demonstrations which one major party organized in the aftermath of the poll. Whether they were justified or not is not the point of this message. We record our regret at the talk and demonstration of bitterness, boycotts and even some commercial profiling.
Against that backdrop, the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) welcomes the advent of the Christian Festival of Christmas and joins in the observance of this all-pervasive festival. As is traditional, the Guyanese version of Christmas brought calm, togetherness and, of course, merriment to Guyanese glad to unshackle themselves from the more contentious issues of the recent election period and those of post-polling day.
Most Christians have chosen to celebrate the Birth of their Christ Child on December 25 even though, arguably, the Nativity did not occur then. But it is the Spirit which the Hope for Mankind that Birth signaled. Our Christian community holds that their God’s Word was made flesh and dwelt amongst men.
Jesus was reportedly a humble working-class man who was also the Chief Servant of his Father, ministering to the poor and dispossessed in the face of the brutal power of Roman Government.
There are numerous symbols, ceremonies and spiritual-religious components to the Christmas Story. In Guyana, GAWU’s thousands of members, Christian or not, find some way to manifest the birth, the renewal and the hope of the wonderful Biblical occasion. GAWU closes this message by hoping that this particular Christmas 2011 will bless all Guyanese with peace, goodwill, sharing and caring for one another. Let the birth inspire our Leaders and Ourselves to strive for tolerance and co-operation both within and outside of the corridors of power.
Truly, then, it will be Christmas, “Joy to the World” for Guyana in December and throughout the New Year.
A Joyous Christmas of Peace and Goodwill, and a Successful Constructive New Year to All Guyanese from GAWU.
FITUG…
A season of hope and goodwill
EVEN the goings-on of a political, post-election nature failed to dampen the festive fervour Guyanese work up for the Christmas Season of Hope and Goodwill.
The Executive of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Guyana (FITUG) wishes every Guyanese, especially its own 35,000 members, a peaceful and pleasant Christmas and a New Year filled with personal fulfillment and national progress.
Our thousands of members span the gamut of productive economic activity in Guyana. Throughout the year, from sugar workers to seafood operatives, FITUG members have toiled to produce for the National Economy.
FITUG congratulates them for their contributions and appreciates that they and all Guyana deserve a happy Christmas.
FITUG also wishes the new Administration and a rejuvenated Opposition the best of this season of peace and goodwill. May their Parliamentary deliberations catapult our Guyana onto unprecedented greatness.
This is our wish for the New Year as FITUG also continues to explore mechanisms to make our labour movement more cohesive in terms of common ground and for the cause of the nation’s working-class.
A happy, united workers movement makes for a productive worker-employer environment. FITUG looks forward to 2012, and wishes all Guyana a Great Festive Season and a New Year of Peace and Progress.
