RHTY&SC Cricket Teams host 2nd Annual Zara Apartments Educational Awards Scheme

SIX outstanding Grade Six students were last Tuesday honoured by the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club when the club’s seven cricket teams hosted their second annual Zara Apartments Educational Awards Scheme. The students were drawn from the Port Mourant, Belvedere and Rose Hall Town Primary Schools and were the top students at the Grade 6 level for this year.
Those honoured were Marissa Foster and Surendra Etwaru of Port Mourant, Karema Baijnauth and Faleena Dawalat of Rose Hall Primary and Aszal Rajak and Anand Thimmarayen of Belvedere Primary.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Secretary/CEO of the RHTY&SC Hilbert Foster said overseas-based Guyanese businessman, Mr George Subraj, owner of Zara Apartments in New York, sponsored the programme in his continued effort to promote the importance of education.
Foster stated that the RHTY&SC fully understands that education is the foundation to a successful future for all sportspersons and that is the reason why the club was investing so heavily in its pre-education and anti-drugs campaigns.
Speaking directly to the six awardees, the long-serving secretary/CEO, advised them to dedicate themselves fully to their studies, to be disciplined at all times and to be careful when selecting their friends.
Foster also spoke on the advantages of sports in the lives of youths and informed the attentive students that sports is the best alternative to a life on the road and drugs.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Marissa Foster of Port Mourant Primary School expressed gratitude to the club and Mr. Subraj of Zara Apartments.
Noting that she felt honoured to be recognised for her achievements in Grade 6, she urged her fellow awardees to uphold the high tradition they have set themselves and to always strive for excellence and urged the club to continue serving youths in the area.
She congratulated Subraj on his achievement of being conferred a Medal of Service by the Government of Guyana, while Martha Achaibar, a teacher attached to the Port Mourant Primary School, expressed her pleasure that the club and sponsor saw it fit to recognise and honour the students and she was confident that it would serve as an inspiration in the future.
Each student received a wide collection of gifts and also a Zara Apartment T-shirt and cap.
Zara Apartment is a household named in the New York, USA area and offers accommodation in spacious and well-furnished apartments and luxury homes, while their President/CEO is well known in Guyana for his charity work. In a message to the students, encouraged them to make full use of the educational opportunities being provided to them and always aim for the highest standard.
