Fourth annual Schools Chess Championship on this weekend

THE Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport will be sponsoring exclusively the fourth annual National Schools Chess Championship which takes place December 17 – 18 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
Expected to attend the tournament are defending champions Queen’s College who defeated their rivals St Stanislaus College to take the title last year.

The Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) is set to coordinate the event which is open to chess players from both public and private primary and secondary schools.
Each school can field an ‘A’ or ‘B’ team, each consisting of four players. However, players can also represent their school in the individual category if unable to form a team.
Participation is free and players must be attired in their school uniform both days.
Players with tournament size chess sets can bring them along since a limited number of sets would be available at the venue.
Registration begins at 09:00hrs. Schools can pre-register for the tournament by contacting GCF officials Vishnu Rampersaud on 628-8267, Irshad Mohammad on 664-1650 or Shiv Nandalall on 225-8270.
Schools out of Georgetown wishing to take part can also contact the GCF officials for information on their participation.
