WEST Front Road, Queen Street Tiger Bay, Hope Street Tiger Bay and Alexander Village made it into the quarter-final round of the Guinness Greatest in Da Street Futsal competition when they claimed victories on Tuesday night at the National Cultural Centre (NCC) tarmac. Battling in the ‘round of 16’ knockout phase of the competition, Queen Street defeated Beterverwagting 4-2, West Front Road trounced Globe Yard 3-0, Hope Street Tiger Bay got past Charlestown 2-1 and Alexander Village needled D’Urban Street.
The action continues tonight with the final four matches in the ‘round of 16’ when the teams return to the NCC tarmac from 18:00hrs as Back Circle take on North Last Entrance, West Back Road battle with Island Allstar, Broad Street face Albouystown B and Lodge Housing Scheme engage East Front Road.
On Tuesday night Queen Street Tiger Bay and BV battled to a 2-2 deadlock before the former surged ahead in extra time to claim the victory. Queen Street had a helmet-trick coming from Eon Alfred who led the way against the opposition, who had both goals scored by Delroy Deen.
West Front road swept Globe Yard out of the competition as Michael Pedro led the way with a brace in the 16th and 17th minutes, He was supported by Hubert Pedro who chipped in with a 19th-minute goal.
In the Hope Street/Charlestown showdown, the latter drew first blood in the sixth minute when Travis Heyliger scored then the eventual victors equalised the very next minute when Solomon Austin pierced the opposition’s goal.
The battle continued with the teams tied until Dwayne Dickson claimed the lead for Hope Street with one minute to go in the encounter; a goal for which Charlestown had no answer.
Meanwhile, the exhibition tournament also continues tonight with four matches: Customs versus Media, Clippers versus Sweet Point, Upper Level versus Guinness Bar and YMCA versus Oasis.
The exhibition tournament began on Tuesday night when YMCA defeated Upper Level 3-2, Sweet Point gained a walkover from the Media team, Guinness Bar and Oasis battled to a 1-1 draw and Customs got the better of Clippers 4-2 .
