A CANADIAN citizen was sentenced to four years imprisonment and fined $30,000 yesterday, for drug trafficking. Nicolas Prince pleaded guilty to the offence, admitting that, on November 18, at Cheddi Jagan International Airport, he trafficked in one kilogramme 237 grammes of cocaine.
Police Corporal Jairam Luckhai, prosecuting, told the Court that ranks from the Narcotics Branch were on duty at the airport when they conducted a search on the belongings of the defendant, who was an outgoing passenger.
The prosecutor said the narcotic was found in the defendant’s suitcase and he later admitted that he had ingested 24 cocaine pellets.
The prosecutor said Prince was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where the cocaine pellets were removed from his stomach.
The prisoner told the court he committed the offence because he needed the money.
