The PPP/C has revived the spirit of 1953 in Guyana

ONE of the newer converts to the PPP/C, former PNC/R parliamentarian, Joseph Hamilton, told scores of attentive Essequibians at a public meeting at Devonshire Castle on Saturday night that the late Father of the Nation and President of Guyana, Dr Cheddi Jagan, would have been pleased to see the unity of Guyanese people under the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C). Declaring, “Dis time nah lang time; it’s a different time, because Guyanese are witnessing the spirit of 1953”, he dubbed the PPP the only national party and the party that has the best programme for Guyana’s development.
He told the crowd that he served the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) as parliamentarian, but parted company with that party some four years ago because he wanted to be in a party that united the country and sought the best for Guyana, and that party is the PPP/C.
According to Hamilton, the PNCR never sought the best for Guyana. Its members never talked about programmes and policies for the country, because they were concerned only about race.
Hamilton said his spirit was closely knit with that of Mr. Donald Ramotar, the PPP/C presidential candidate, and he predicted that the ruling party would be victorious at the upcoming general elections.
He said the evidence of a country developing is the personal development of its citizens, and that is evident in Guyana. “Look around the country, and the evidence of new and modern housing schemes can be seen: new paved streets, new four-lane highways, thousands of street lights, hundreds of new and modern schools, agriculture development, supermarkets, modern buildings, just to name a few,” Hamilton said. He also singled out the Anna Regina Multilateral School as a top school in the country, which every year records excellent passes at CXC because of the policies of the government to develop education.
Hamilton told the crowd: “There is much more to be done and a country to be built, and the only party that will give Guyanese a chance to build is the PPP/C. So, every voter who wants to see progress must vote for the party for the future, the PPP/C.”
Residents living in upper and lower Pomeroon River communities excitedly danced to the PPP/C jingles “Dem a watch we” and “What’s in my cup, will stay in my cup” as the party took its campaign along the Pomeroon River on Monday.
Scores of party supporters accompanied Region Two Chairman Ali Baksh to take the party message to residents by boat.
A trawler owned by Doodnauth Samaroo of Hampton Court was decked with the party flag and a huge sound system as it headed downriver, transforming the atmosphere with the party message: “Vote Donald for the presidency”. Residents, farmers, children all rushed to their stellings, dancing and shouting, “We want the PPP/C to continue in office! We are voting for the cup, come Election Day!”
One group of persons on a stelling danced and partied with a huge cup in their midst as the vessel passed their area. Party supporters on the trawler danced and held flags on the deck as they waved to fellow supporters living along both banks of the Pomeroon River. Hundreds of residents showed the ‘V’ sign as the vessel passed their area.
Several other party supporters in a smaller vessel that followed the trawler stopped at every stelling and distributed posters of Donald Ramotar, along with fliers and newspapers, to large groups of persons waiting to receive.
The poster of Donald Ramotar for president can now be seen in every area along the Pomeroon River, indicating that the Pomeroon River is solidly pro-PPP/C.
The river campaign was also taken to St Monica in the Upper Pomeroon River.
Party supporters distributed jerseys with the picture of Donald Ramotar, bags, key rings and cups to hundreds of residents along the Pomeroon River.
