IN his typical style of trading barbs, Moses Nagamootoo has found himself in a rather uncomfortable position. Among his many accusations against his former party, the indomitable PPP/C, he insinuated that they were in complicity with the narco dealers in this country. For the purpose of this analysis, let’s give Nagamootoo the benefit of the doubt of this unsubstantiated allegation and take it a few steps backwards. Just a few months ago, Nagamootoo signalled his intention to run for the position of Presidential Candidate for the PPP/C in the 2011 general elections. Realising that his chances of winning that position were rather slim, he opted out of the race and the other candidates, once again showing the maturity that has been a defining characteristic of that party from its inception, united behind Donald Ramotar as the PPP/C’s Presidential Candidate for the 2011 elections.
One should understand that the allegation in question was never made prior to Nagamootoo seeking the post discussed above and therefore raises the question: why then was “lean and clean” Nagamootoo vying to lead the PPP/C, an organisation he insinuates was in collusion with the drug lords since if he had won the nomination for the Presidential post, then he would have been the head of a drug infested PPP/C.
So it seems therefore that he did not mind the PPP/C being in collusion with the narco world as long as he was the Presidential candidate.
What transpired thereafter is food for thought for one to analyse the nature of the individual in question. He went over to the AFC a party he had said in 2006 he would never join. He was lured by the offer of the position of Vice-President should the AFC win the elections. The AFC itself has been embroiled in its own narco saga. Reginald Rodrigues was arrested in a huge cocaine bust during which the illicit substance was found concealed in pepper sauce. Rodrigues was said to be a principal financier of the AFC. So it seems that Mr. Nagamootoo, instead of running away from the narco world he is running towards it. But this brings out an unsavoury characteristic of the man, for the attainment of status and position he is willing to sell his soul. By his statement that the PPP/C will sink without him shows the arrogance and ego that the electorate is dealing with. The PPP/C has been without Nagamootoo for a long time and so he has found himself compromised with his baseless utterances and actions.
Seems like Mr. Nagamootoo is running towards the narco world
