Burglary defendant, girl friend accuse each other

WINSTON Phillips, of Lot 769 ‘B’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday on a break and enter and larceny charge.
He pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said on October 23, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Nicola Edghill and stole things worth $361,000.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the defendant is the brother-in-law of the virtual complainant and he committed the offence after Edghill left to go into the interior.
The Prosecutor said when the defendant’s girlfriend was contacted, she told Police that Phillips gave her the proceeds of the burglary to sell.
But the defendant claimed it was his girlfriend who gave him the booty.
Phillips was put on $125,000 bail until November 14.
