Several activities planned for Road Safety Month in November

THE Guyana National Road Safety Council (GNRSC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) and the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Traffic Department, will be embarking on a series of training programmes, seminars and other activities in various regions around the country, in observance of National Road Safety Month, from 1st to 30th November, 2011.

These timely awareness programmes are crucial at this juncture in our country’s development, given the escalating numbers of road accidents and concomitant fatalities being recorded.

“In our effort to curb the ongoing ‘road carnage’, we (GNRSC officials, Guyana Police Force and Road Safety volunteers) around the country are combining our efforts to sensitise and educate road users; mainly school children, school patrols, business entity drivers, and public transportation drivers. However, these programmes are open to all road users who have an interest in road safety.

“Also included in our programme is a ‘Schools’ Road Safety Patrol Competition’, which will be launched on 1st November, 2011. All interested schools are encouraged to participate in this activity.
Prizes will be awarded for the: Best Road Safety Teacher, Best Group Coordination, Best Individual Performance, and Best School Overall Performance in 1st, 2nd & 3rd categories.

“The ultimate goal is to generate interest in all Guyanese, both young and old, to become road safety advocates.

The 2011 Theme for Road Safety is: ‘Drive wise and save lives’
