ANDRE Cummings celebrated Diwali in grand style when he secured victory in the second annual Citizens Bank Players Cup golf tournament which attracted both local and foreign competitors on Wednesday at Lusignan golf course. Cummings who returned to competition a few weeks ago looked in good nick on a challenging day on the course.
He shot a 68 net to come out ahead of three players on 69.
Salim Rashid of the United States placed second on a count-back from Dr John Ramsingh who finished in the third spot.
Rashid also had the lowest gross of 75.
Reigning Guyana Open women’s champion Christine Sukhram also finished on net 69 and in the process she emerged winner of the ladies competition.
Apart from Rashid, Andrew Claxton and Roger Rajkumar of Canada Citizens Bank Chairman Clifford Reis also competed.
President of the Lusignan Golf Club, Brian Hackett, thanked the management and staff of Citizens Bank for their continued sponsorship of the tournament.
He also thanked the players, who took time out from the Diwali holiday to participate in the competition.
Speaking on behalf of Citizens Bank, Philip Jaiserrisingh, Credit and Marketing Manager, said that his company was extremely pleased to sponsor the tournament.
He said the Players Cup was initiated last year but the Bank has been sponsoring golf tournaments for the past five years.
Jaiserrisingh noted the involvement of the golfers from the United States and Canada added a new dimension to the tournament.
Meantime, the Annual MACORP Medal Play tournament will take place tomorrow at the Lusignan Golf Club.
Tee-off is at 12:30hrs.
