President encourages CXC top student to aim high

SANJIV NANDALALL, one of Guyana’s top performers at this year’s Caribbean Secondary Examination Council (CSEC) examination, was given career guidance advice from President Bharrat Jagdeo that would probably guide him throughout his future endeavours. Nandalall, a former student of the Saraswatie Vidya Niketan school at Cornelia Ida who copped 13 Grade Ones at CSEC, paid a courtesy call on the Head of State, accompanied by principal of the school, Swami Aksharananda, and his father, Rabindra Nandalall.
As he mulls his academic and career future, President Jagdeo advised Nandalall to aim high and think carefully in his pursuits. This was after he presented the youth with a certificate.
The student, who spoke with the Government Information Agency (GINA), believes that the efforts of qualified tutors and the learning environment which the institution offers, coupled with his dedication to his studies, aided his success.
“Once you have the proper learning environment, spiritually, academically, that’s the key to learning,” Nandalall said.
Saraswatie Vidya Niketan is among the top performing private schools this year, attaining over 94 percent in Grades One to Three passes and its principal credits its success to the level of discipline at the institution.
Although the average common entrance pass requirement for students entering Saraswatie Vidya Niketan is below 470, the school has been maintaining a record of pass results equivalent to that of senior schools. This was according to Swami Aksharananda who spoke with GINA.
“We have a close cooperation with parents, and we have a very strong in-house insistence on discipline… no cell phones, no ipods etc… most of the students comply and most of the parents support us in this drive,” Swami Aksharananda said.
Anna Hamid was the school’s top performer at last year’s examination, gaining 11 Grade Ones and one Grade Two. She was honoured for her achievements by President Jagdeo who presented her a certificate. (GINA)
