THE village of Aishalton, deep south Rupununi, Region 9 (Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo) is bustling with activity for hosting Amerindian Heritage Day celebration Saturday. Heritage Day observances at Aishalton begin at 9:00hrs.
And Toshao Hildebrandt James has invited Guyanese to come to the village, to enjoy the hospitality of the villagers, and to be part of the one-day programme.
The residents of Aishalton are of the Wapishana tribe .
James said that Aishalton has much to showcase, including the mysterious pre-historic petroglyphs (rock carvings) at the nearby Macawtau mountain, which have fascinated historians and archaeologists from the time of their discovery to date.
Chairman of Region 9, Clarendo Lucas, confirmed that preparations for the big event are in full swing, and that residents from neighbouring deep south villages have begun mobilizing for the journey to the village to participate in the sports and cultural programme , the exhibition of food and produce, and other highlights for the big event.
Aishalton is approximately 104 miles south of Lethem.
