LIAT helps hearing affected NGSA scholar to Antigua

TWELVE-YEAR-OLD Mackenzie High School student, Tatiana Nunes and her mother, Sarah, on Wednesday last, boarded a LIAT flight for Antigua where the child is to undergo tests and possible surgery to correct a hearing impairment, which has been affecting her since birth. Sarah Nunes collected the two travel tickets, on Monday, as promised compliments of the airline, seizing the opportunity to help the talented Tatiana to get the necessary medical intervention, which is to be done by an ear specialist with the costs being borne by Sarah’s brother James Richards.
At the presentation of the tickets, at Cheddi Jagan International Airport, LIAT’s Country Manager, Mr. Orrin Walton said: “The story is about young Tatiana. We, at LIAT, are just happy that we could play a part in her continuing development.
“When we heard about her story, we thought it was an incredible story. The marks that she was able to get at the (National ) Grade Six Assessment Examination, 483, to win a place at Mackenzie High School), we had no doubt that we wanted to assist to help in her continuing development.”
The girl’s mother, Sarah Nunes responded: “I am profoundly grateful. I am very, very happy for this opportunity. I am thankful to LIAT and to all the other persons who came on board just to make this venture possible.”
Tatiana, who previously attended the Regma Primary School at Mackenzie and her mother Sarah are expected to be back after spending two weeks in Antigua.
