BCB congratulates their champions
THE cupboards and the office are fast running out of space for trophies and medallions but the sweet feeling of victory over the long standing arch rival is always one to cherish and to reflect on the hard work done to achieve it. The President, Executives and Members of the Berbice Cricket Board would like to express gratitude to Manager Mark Lyte, Coach Adrian Amsterdam, Captain Assad Fudadin and the Berbice Cellink senior team for retaining the 2011 El Dorado 50-Overs Inter-county title after soundly trashing Demerara by six wickets at the Albion Community Centre Ground last Sunday.
The victory was just the continuation of a remarkable success story called Berbice Cricket, with the Ancient County’s domination of cricket in Guyana.
Success comes as a result of careful planning, visionary leadership, hard work and team unity and the BCB has provided all of the above over the last four years, having played cricket at all levels, the numerous projects and programmes in place and the BCB’s confidence that Berbice would continue its domination of the game well in the future.
The BCB would like to especially praise Fudadin for leading from the front, his level headed vice captain Royston Crandon, Narsingh Deonarine, the highly talented Jonathan Foo and the improving Stephen Latcha who all played crucial roles in the tournament.
Special mention must also be made to Amsterdam who has over the years worked quietly to transform his team into a confident and determined squad and surely deserve an opportunity at the national level.
The Berbice Senior Selectors also deserve special mention for sticking to their guns on the selection of the team despite the criticism of some who had their own agenda.
The BCB would also like to express thanks to the thousands upon thousands of passionate Berbicians who have turned up at the venue to support our boys. There were special feelings on the ground as every Berbician united with the full knowledge and confidence that Berbice cricket is on top of its game and would continue to climb higher.
There can be no doubt that the passion and pride among Berbicians were back for its cricketers and it was on full display on Sunday. We wish to say thank you to all who have supported our boys especially the thousand of children and youths who rallied around their heroes.
Congrats again to our boys and May we march on to the National 20/20 and four-day titles, while the BCB wishes to reassure the entire Berbice cricketing public that progress would continue as never before as we would uphold the high tradition we have set ourselves and that nothing would be allowed to destroy our unity in Berbice.
