RESIDENTS of Anaida Avenue, Eccles, East Bank Demerara, were in a state of shock, after a swarm of bees attacked a passerby leaving him unconscious yesterday afternoon.
According to reports, the man was riding his bicycle but dismounted in an effort to save himself from the insects but was unable to escape from them as they were too many.
“He screamed for help and persons were going to assist him but were fearful for their own safety and had to hide,” one man said.
After several minutes of torture and being stung, the victim was left lying on the roadway.
When the Guyana Chronicle arrived on the scene, public-spirited persons from the community had already taken the man to the Georgetown Public Hospital and his bicycle, slippers and lunch box were in the middle of the road.
Residents said that this is the first time such an incident took place in the community and they are pleading with the relevant authorities to make an intervention.
