-$134.4M in contracts signed
THE Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA), through the Citizen Security Programme on Friday signed several contracts totalling $134.5M for the remodelling of the Ministry’s building and rehabilitation of six police stations in C and A Divisions.
Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee in his brief remarks said that the six police stations that are slated for rehabilitation are located in two of the major police divisions in the country and will no doubt add to greater effectiveness and efficiency of the Force as a whole.
He said that the aim behind this massive infrastructural development is to make these stations more user friendly and to install certain facilities in order to build greater confidence and public assurance in carrying out operations such as identification parades and cater to victims of domestic violence among others.

With regards to the remodelling of the Ministry, the services that will be offered in the new building will remain virtually the same, but the aesthetics and conditions will be drastically improved, making it more comfortable for persons to access the services.
“Given the pivotal role of the Home Affairs Ministry to ensuring public order and security as well as to the modernising architecture to the security sector, some structural adjustments will have to be made as well,” the Minister said.

Turning to the contractors, he said that all of the projects are of extreme importance to the security sector and as such, they should exert every effort to ensure that the obligations reflected in the contract are adhered to and to ensure timely completion of high work.

The contracts include: $141M for the remodelling of the Ministry by Pioneer General Contracting Services, $19.2M for the rehabilitation of the Mahaica Police Station, $19.1 for Cove and John, $17.9M for Beterverwagting, $24.9M for Sparendaam, $22.9M for Providence, and $30.3M for the Timehri Police Stations.
Additionally, a contract was awarded to VIKAB Engineering for the supervision of the rehabilitation works of to be executed at the Ministry; this was followed by a power point by consultants from Siebtek Incorporated on the specifications of the works.
