THE Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO) should be divided into two independent entities viz:
a) Sugar cane manufacturing – planting, nurturing and other factors that will yield maximum crops for ultimate reaping, ready for delivery. b) Cane sugar producing – processing all canes for the manufacture of quality raw sugar and all other factors that will yield an accepted product on the world market.
These two entities appear to be beyond the capacity to be managed as a simple operation. In reality, it is a straightforward agricultural exercise in concentrating on the production of sugar cane; a case of specializing and the other venture a straightforward construction of manufacturing cane sugar.
In any event, the negotiation of combining the two creates all sorts of avenues for manipulation and for fraudulent exploits.
My son was the victim of this sort of sinister practice in the execution of a tender for tyres which he won, but was manipulated out of the contract by fraudulent means.
Junior professionals in the employ of the current entity have related varied maladministration practices, which left me aghast. The unwieldiness of GUYSUCO requires close, intimate, dedicated professional supervision at all levels of operations which is absent in practice at this flagship enterprise.
Any future with the existing policies in place will surely produce backward movement. It is therefore vitally incumbent that the powers that be take immediate action to remedy the malaise that constantly hovers ominously overhead. Finally, I am in support of the call by Minister Persaud for the Board of GUYSUCO to hasten their decision on selling in either India or China for assistance.
GUYSUCO should be divided into two entities
