KOMAL Persaud and Puran Singh were remanded to prison overnight, when they appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell yesterday, on charges of trafficking in narcotics, cultivating a prohibited plant and possession of firearm and ammunition without licence.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges, which said, on August 31, they had 105 kilogrammes of cannabis (marijuana) to traffic and cultivated the plant.
It was alleged that, also on August 31, the duo had three 12-gauge shotgun cartridges without being the holders of firearm licences.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Adrian Thompson, for Persaud, informed the court that the police had held four persons on the same allegations but charged only two.
The lawyer expressed surprise that Persaud is charged with unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition when he is the holder of a firearm licence.
Persaud and Singh will be back in court today.
