…agreement between NAACIE and Bosai to benefit some 500 workers
A SEVEN per cent across the board increase in wages and salaries agreed to by the National Association of Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Employees (NAACIE), and the management of Bosai Minerals Group Guyana Inc., signed yesterday at the Watooka Club, Linden, will benefit the approximately 500 workers at the Linden bauxite operations. The parties agreed that workers will receive an across the board seven percent increase retroactive to when the last agreement expired on March 31, 2011.
Reached for a comment, General Manger of BOSAI, George Zhoa, said, “We have a stable workforce and that’s the most important thing for a company. The employees get what they need and the
Chief Labour Officer Yoganda Persaud, at the signing, said, “We had been in contact with both sides.”
“It is good that people themselves negotiate an agreement. When you have an agreement between management and union, it is easier to implement, because it came from them. They understand the agreement, they understand the conditions. So it makes more sense than if it comes from a bilateral level.
Bosai’s Senior Personnel Officer, Vance Reid, when asked of how difficult the negotiations were, indicated that it was not at all difficult.
“Like all negotiations it had its ups and downs. We had to convince the other side and vice versa. I think it was okay.
