T&T preparations hit by state of emergency

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – Trinidad and Tobago have had their preparations for the Champions League Twenty20 in India hit by the ongoing state of emergency here.
Omar Khan said Tuesday the squad would not be able to play any night warm-up games because of the curfew imposed across certain sections of the country.
Government ordered the limited state of emergency early Monday in an effort to deal with an upsurge in violence that has swept the country.
“We accept the fact that the government of the day is doing what they think is best to address the crime situation and we are going to try and make do in the current situation,” Khan said.
“Some of the games in India will be night matches and we were hoping to have some night practice matches home as we prepare but this cannot be done at present.
“Instead we have carded two day matches for this Saturday and Sunday at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Couva and the players will have to make do with that.
“We have the players doing specialised training with the coaches in Couva. They are setting specific goals and match situations for the players to work on and that is coming along nicely.”
In the absence of night matches here, T&T will look to use the upcoming tour of Guyana to get precious practice under lights.
T&T qualified for the CLT20 when they captured the Caribbean Twenty20 Championship earlier this year.
However, they will have to clash with five other teams in a playoff, in order to get one of the three remaining spots in the September 19 to October 9 CLT20.
