FOLLOWING Anguilla’s victory against Curacao on Friday, host team Guyana are now facing a challenging task if they want to keep their hopes alive and advance to the next round of the CONCACAF Under-17 World Cup Qualifiers. Guyana, who played to a draw with Curacao on Wednesday, will challenge Anguilla in the final Group C match today at Uitvlugt Ground from 15:30hrs. The host side must win to top the group or hold Anguilla to a draw in order to progress.
The Anguillan side who got past Curacao 2-1, looked a more dominant team and are expected to be a tough opponent for Guyana today.
In the match on Friday Anguilla were the superior side with Coleen Johnson drawing first blood in the 56th minute. A few minutes later Ruayna Stroop evened the scores with a shot that should have been denied but instead the ball found its way into the back of the net after creeping through the custodian’s legs.
In the closing minutes of the showdown Juneicia Romney regained the lead for Anguilla with a shot the opposition had no answer for.
