Teenager remanded for allegedly stealing Blackberry phone

– three others granted bail on similar charges
TRAVIS Anthony (no address given) was remanded to prison on a robbery under arms charge.
The 18-year-old was refused bail when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, charged, indictably, with having on August 8, in Georgetown, being armed with a pair of scissors, robbed Bonny Parris of one Blackberry cellular phone valued $60,000.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, successfully objected to him being granted pre-trial freedom and the case was transferred to another Court for October 21.
Three others, facing similar charges, were however, granted conditional freedom each on a $125,000 bond.
Patrick Dundas, 19; Napthali Favourite, 20; and Laptali Clarke, 20 (no addresses given either) are alleged to have,  on August 9, in John Street, Campbellville, in Georgetown, being together with other persons, robbed Xavier Kareem of one Blackberry phone valued $45,000, one wrist watch worth $3,000 and a bag containing  other articles with a total value of $62,000.
Police Corporal Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said Kareem was entering a mini-bus when the trio robbed him.
The prosecutor said a taxi driver saw what happened and Dundas was taken to a Police station while a patrol was alerted and Favourite and Clarke were later apprehended, searched and the booty recovered from their possession.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Vic Puran, representing the trio, claimed the allegation arose out of an argument between Kareem and Dundas, that took place several days before outside Stabroek Market.
Their case was transferred to another Court, for October 21, as well. (Nikisha Low-a-Chee)
