MURDER accused Colin Jones, Randy Mars, Jafar Simpson, Basil Morgan and Anthony Watson are to return to the Providence Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, for the possible start of a preliminary inquiry into a murder charge. But the start of the PI hinges on a missing magisterial docket in relation to the charge.
The men are facing three indictable charges, one for murder committed on Wodette Roberts between November 3 and 4, 2009, at Low Creek, Soesdyke/Linden Highway ; and two for attempted murder against Roopchand Gocool and Shawn Embleton, also at Low Creek.
All three matters are being tried together.
The Chronicle has learnt that the men, at an appearance before magistrate Leslie Sobers on June 14 last, were informed that the PI would have commenced on July 7 as the prosecution had indicated its readiness.
However, when the matter was called, the court heard that the magisterial docket could not be located, even though the magistrate had the matter delayed to allow for a thorough search to be done.
Magistrate Sobers, who subsequently granted an adjournment to August 16, cautioned that should the docket not be produced then, he may be inclined to discharge the accused.
