Defence Counsel alleges…

Theft allegation followed allegation of extra-marital affair
A LAWYER, making a bail application for a woman accused of theft, disclosed, in Court yesterday, that she has been involved in an extra-marital affair for two years before the man found out.
Leita Henry, 35, of Lot 35 Craig Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, was ordered, by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, to lodge a $70,000 bond.
Henry was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that, between December 14 and December 24, 2010, at Houston, East Bank Demerara, she stole a gold band valued $200,000, property of Ovin Clarke.
Defence Counsel Paul Fung-A-Fat, representing Henry, told the Court that Clarke made the allegation against her because the two were having an affair for the last two years and he recently discovered that she is married.
Fung-a-Fat said Henry made no confession and no one saw her take the jewel.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, had no objection to pre-trial liberty being granted to Henry but the case was transferred to another Court for October 20. (Nikisha Low-a-Chee)
