IN “Merely using a methodology” (SN Jul 29), Mr. Freddie Kissoon penned that it was uncalled for and unnecessary for “Mrs. DeCaires to state that Kissoon’s contributions as a weekly columnist were not always accepted for publication.” I find those notations very appropriate and I thank Mrs. De Caires for informing the public that Kissoon’s columns and letters were rejected. I wonder why they were rejected – is it because they were not accurate? Kissoon has always projected himself as a writer whose columns were right and proper and that he was the best thing since dhal puri. He also claimed in several columns in another newspaper he left SN because he did not like the way the paper was managed. Now we know the truth. His columns were rejected and he did not leave on his own accord. He was rejected by the late publisher Mr. David de Caires because of the contents of his writings.
Kissoon was never forgiving of De Caires for being let go as a weekly columnist. Since De Caires’s death almost three years ago, Kissoon penned derogatory comments about the man. Mr. De Caires was among the most outstanding citizens of Guyana deserving of the highest accolades of a nation. De Caires was a man of integrity and decency with little tolerance for inaccuracies. The same description does not apply to Kissoon.
We don’t know the public reasons for rejection by Mr. De Caires of several of Kissoon’s articles. I had several chats with Mr. De Caires about Kissoon. Readers can surmise the reasons just by examining the contents of Kissoon’s columns in another newspaper – lack of accuracy, objectivity, fairness, balance, etc. Some of the contents of Kissoon’s columns would not be allowed in American publications which allow maximum press freedom.
Thank you Mrs. De Caires for informing the public on a fact about Kissoon’s writings that had gone unnoticed.
