THE Rotary Club of Stabroek recently held its award ceremony which coincided with the inauguration of its new board at the Pegasus Hotel.
Past President Anand Harrilall highlighted some of the achievements of the club over the years, including the first national spelling bee competition and the transition seminar for Grade 6 students, all of which had partnerships as key to their success.
Harrilall noted that the club’s greatest accomplishment this year was the completion of the building to facilitate literacy classes for the Buxton Youth Developers Group, which was made possible primarily through a partnership with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
He postulated that the results the club demonstrated would not have been possible without the partnerships it brokered over the years.
He told the gathering of Rotarians and partners, “We value partnerships as a powerful element in our community development approach. In fact, it is the key ingredient in building a strong community in such a rapidly evolving development paradigm, and so this evening, I would like to honour our longstanding and committed partners who placed their confidence in us.”
Companies and organisations awarded included GT & T, DDL, Ansa Mc Al, Banks DIH, CIDA, Scotiabank, UNICEF and Pegasus Hotel.
Harrilall, in closing off the presentation of awards noted, “As we all know, Rotary is an embodiment of all that is good in the world, and it is with this in mind that I implore you to continue to contribute to Rotary projects which promote better education, health, peace and understanding . Your partnership helps us to keep the Rotary wheel turning.”
He also extended special thanks to community partners who identified community projects and supported the club to bring them to fruition.
