LINDEN Polis, 46, of 100 Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara, was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton, charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Polis pleaded not guilty to both charges. One of the offences stated that on July 21, at Aruka Backdam, in the Cuyuni River, Polis had in his possession one .38 Taurus revolver when he is not the holder of a firearm licence.
The other offence stated that on July 21, at the same location, he had in his possession 28 rounds of.38 ammunition.
Attorney-at-law Vic Puran, representing Polis, made an application for bail and informed the court that the firearm and ammunition were not found on his person, and that it was found in a mining camp occupied by many other persons.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, said the facts are that at the time the camp was raided by the police, Corbin was the only occupant there. Pindar objected to bail on no special circumstances, and successfully requested that the matter be transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
The Magistrate ruled in favour of the prosecutor and the matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court for report and fixture on July 28.
