PPP condemns attack on people of Norway

THE People’s Progressive Party extends its condolences to the Government and people of Norway as it condemns in the strongest manner the ghastly attacks of July 22nd 2011, including the mass slaughter which has so far claimed 85 lives at a youth camp in that nation.
In a press statement, the PPP said, “The PPP is aware that a Norwegian national, with alleged links to right-wing extremists, has been arrested and charged with both the youth camp shooting and an earlier bombing of a building which housed government offices in the capital of Oslo that has claimed 7 lives.
“The party is deeply saddened by the loss of life, injuries and destruction to a nation which is a responsible international partner that constantly seeks to empower people across our globe.
“This tragedy is even more significant for our nation as Norway is an important partner with Guyana in the area of Forest Conservation, given its historic Reduction of Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation agreement with this country on November 9, 2009.
“The PPP remains firmly of the view that terrorism and targeting of innocent civilians must be condemned as a means of political struggle,” the statement concluded.
