I saw this headline of an article in KN and my curiosity got the better of me, so I read it: ‘Power: A comparison between Guyana and the USA’.
Guyana’s famous imp wrote: “Absolute power is the only source for the explanation of the ongoing tragedy of this country. It began with Dr. Jagan. What Jagan believed in he didn’t possess power long enough to practise. The paramountcy of the party, the maximum leader syndrome, the group-think culture etc., was embodied in Dr. Jagan”.
This convinces me that Freddie is perverted, when it comes to facts, especially relating to Dr. Jagan and the PPP.
Dr. Jagan, in particular and the PPP as an organisation, always strove to de-emphasise the idea of “paramountcy of the leader” within the party. I know this with certainty because, being a student at Accabre College, under the tutelage of Vincent Teekah, this was one of the priorities within the College programme. Freddie did not attend that College, was not a PPP party member at any time and therefore, is not qualified to make such statements about the Dr. Jagan or the PPP.
Being an “observer” as Freddie may elect to assert, does not make the cut, either.
The worst part of the article was in the intent of the writer. Our pseudo-intellectual actually put Dr. Jagan and Guyana’s number one tyrant, Forbes Burnham, in the same category of leaders as Dr. Jagan.
Fred, you may fool the young ones in Guyana, but those of us, including you, who “survived” the catastrophic Burnham era, know, as we know the earth revolves around the sun, that Burnham, demanded and ensured that he be acknowledged as the paramount leader – not very different from the Fuhrer of Germany during WWII.
I would suggest that this kind of propaganda that Freddie takes pride in publishing, be challenged by everyone, on every occasion, less it becomes “the truth” by default.
Our nation deserves to know the truth only. “You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free”.
