Campbell retains captaincy

CELLINK Berbice female skipper Shemaine Campbelle has retained the captaincy position of the female Guyana team who will contest this year’s West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) senior regional women’s tournament to be held in Barbados from August 6 to 16. The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) senior selection panel, under the chairmanship of Reon Griffith, selected the team following the completion of the Board’s female Inter-county tournament which was won by Demerara who defeated the defending champions Cellink Berbice in their final round match.
The 18-year-old Campbelle will have her fellow West Indies teammate June Ogle-Thomas as her deputy, while fast bowlers Erva Giddings, Tremayne Smartt and Subrina Munroe, who all have West Indies experience, are included in the 14 selected by Griffith and company.
The experienced Abena Parker, Prudence Williams, Victoria Bacchus, Nikita Toney and Akaze Thompson are also included while 13-year-old off-spinner Phaffiana Millington has done enough during the recently concluded tournament, to land a place as the baby of the team.
The 14 players, along with the six standbys, are asked to report to the Chetram Singh Centre of Excellence at LBI at 17:00hrs this afternoon, to commence their pre-tournament encampment under the guidance of coach Latchman Yadram.
The Guyana female team reads: Shemaine Campbelle (captain), June Ogle-Thomas (vice-captain), Onika Wallerson, Trishanie Cort, Abena Parker, Prudence Williams, Victoria Bacchus, Joann Van Sertima, Tremayne Smartt, Subrina Munroe, Erva Giddings, Niketa Toney, Akaze Thompson and Phaffiana Millington. The reserve players are: Latoya Smith, Natasha Gangoo, Lashauna Toussaint, Heema Singh, Jacquelyn Singh and Venita Seusarran.
