Notorious pirate ‘Long Hair’ captured

THE Suriname authorities have informed the Guyana Police Force that they have arrested Kevin ‘Long Hair’ Narine.

According to a police press release, the  notorious pirate is currently in custody and has been positively identified.

The Guyanese criminal who has been linked to a number of piracy attacks off the coasts of Guyana and Suriname, was arrested in Paramaribo, Suriname on Thursday night, according to the Police.

Recently, Home Affairs Minister Mr. Clement Rohee had promised that all efforts will be made to ensure that the criminal is captured. Rohee had also  indicated that Narine’s freedom would be shortlived.
“Kevin Narine’s hair may be long but the long arm of the law will soon catch up with him and cut short his ill-gotten freedom,” Rohee declared.
‘Long Hair’ had escaped from the New Amsterdam Prison on June 11, 2011, while serving a sentence of nine years for robbery under arms on the high seas.

Three others including murder accused Rickford La Fleur alias Rickford Williams, 35; Vinood ‘Mango’ Gopaul, 19; and Vijay Seenarine, 33, who was awaiting trial on a charge of carnal knowledge, are currently on the run.
The four are suspected to be involved in recent piracy attacks on at least 15 small fishing boats. During one of the attacks, one fisherman was shot in the shoulder.
Police are continuing the search for the other criminals.
