Police question wife of mechanic who killed his children and committed suicide

POLICE on the Essequibo Coast are questioning the wife of the late mechanic Chunnilall Persaud who killed his two children and then hanged himself Tuesday at Adventure.
Reports said the woman, 21, was at the Suddie Police Station yesterday, as officers tried to fathom what drove her husband to kill his children and then commit suicide.
Reports said on Wednesday, Persaud drowned his two children, Viya, 2, and Shiva, 4, in a trench, and then hanged himself from a mango tree.
Last year, the mechanic had left his wife and two children in Guyana and worked in Trinidad for six months. He returned home last December and wanted to go back, but his wife pleaded with him not to.
Relatives said the mechanic was always a very respectable and quiet man who never mistreated his children or wife.
They said the marriage was plagued by domestic problems and he had no one to speak to about them.
The bodies of the two children and their father are at the Suddie Funeral home awaiting post mortem examinations.
