‘Protect yourselves and your businesses’
—Nadir tells Neal and Massy security expo
MINISTER of Labour Manzoor Nadir says while government has a duty to provide security to the citizens of Guyana, persons and businesses must take steps to minimise their risks, since with the blossoming of the economy, there will be those who still feel it is their God-given right to take other people’s property.
“As our national wealth increases, there will be more opportunities for crime,” the minister told a gathering of business persons at the launch of Neal and Massy’s Electronic Security and Safety Expo, at the Group of Company’s Ruimveldt complex.
The expo will last until tomorrow, and while it will be open today for special invitees only, it will be fully open to the public tomorrow.
“It is incumbent upon them to put measures in place,” Nadir said. The minister was of the view that because of the company’s innovation in the areas of security and safety, it will grow “exponentially.”
Among the gadgetry on display are electronic access control systems, closed circuit television, intercom systems, metal detectors, home alarm systems for burglary and fire, safety wear, fire gear, radio communications equipment and many other items.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, CEO of Neal and Massy, Deo Persaud, said his company stands ready to support government in its security initiatives, as the company puts on display its wide array of hardware and software products to enhance security and safety.
He said that the products displayed will enhance security and will be helpful to those who hitherto depended on less reliable forms of security, such as drowsy watchmen armed with nothing more than a baton.
“The technology has changed and our group is going to play a role in the development of Guyana,” he said, noting that while the company will continue to invest in Guyana, “there are challenges.”
He noted that the migration of skills to ‘greener pastures’ is one of those challenges that the security industry faces. But he said the Neal and Massy Group remains positive that in Guyana there will be opportunities that can be sought after.
About the products, Persaud said that the group has the ability to install and provide the requisite after- sales service, adding that they have all the technical personnel to provide that service.
The products on display will also showcase the capacity of the group’s security service, NM Security Solutions, the predecessor of Securicor Inc. Persaud said that this service is the largest of the private sector security services in Guyana, and is a member of the Guyana Association of Private Security Organizations (GAPSO).
