A footwear vendor was yesterday slapped with a charge of larceny from the person and was placed on $100,000 bail.
Travis Alexander, of 109 D’Anrade Street, Newtown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that on June 25, he stole one gold chain, valued $200,000, from Elizabeth Hunter.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said at about 19:45hrs on that day, Hunter was walking along Light Street when Alexander approached her and snatched her chain.
Harvey said the defendant then made good his escape and the matter was reported. He said, based on investigations, the defendant was arrested and charged.
The prosecutor had no objection to bail, but requested a substantial amount to ensure the defendant return to court for trial.
Alexander, who was unrepresented, was put on $100,000 bail and the matter will be called again on July 28.
