Constable arrested in Orealla fatal shooting

A police constable is under close arrest, following the fatal shooting of Terry Wayne Jack, 22, during a drinking spree at Orealla Police Station, Corentyne river, on Monday morning. Jack, of Amerindian ancestry, sustained a single wound to the left side of his chest.
According to an eye witness, the drinking spree commenced with six persons, including the policeman, the deceased, and four student nurses at approximately 20:00hrs at Rod Henry’s Shop. Two hours later, Jack went to his house where he collected a bottle of Vodka, before joining the others and heading to the Orealla Police Station, where the drinking continued.
Shortly after midnight, an interest in firearms was raised by Jack, which resulted in the policeman leaving and returning with a weapon and demonstrating how it is used.
According to the informant, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the constable pointed the firearm to Jack, and not realising that a bullet was in the breech, pulled the trigger, shooting Jack in the chest.
Jack was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital, where he was certified dead on arrival. A post mortem will be performed shortly.
