A.H. & L Kissoon makes tangible donation to GABA

WITH their ‘Road to London 2012’ programme in high gear, the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) yesterday received a timely donation from local furniture giant A.H. & L Kissoon, who handed over eight locally made heavyweight bags. According to president of the GABA and Parliamentary Secretary Steve Ninvalle, the two large and six medium bags which were made from scraps of cloth, sand and foam will be distributed to those gyms who are in dire need of same, while two will be immediately handed over to the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue, where the Olympic hopefuls are encamped.
GABA vice-president Maurice Rajkumar thanked the sponsor for the donation while stating it is the second time he has approached the company for assistance and was successful in receiving same, with the first coming during the renovation of the Harpy Eagles gym in Albouystown.
“While the first assistance was an important one, this one is very important as they will be assisting us with our preparation for next year’s Olympic Games which will be held in London, along with this year’s Caribbean Boxing Championship. I say thanks on behalf of the GABA.”
In his brief remarks, Ninvalle lauded the sponsor for the contribution and called on other business entities in corporate Guyana to emulate A.H & L Kissoon. He urged the boxing fraternity to support the local furniture manufacturer’s business.
An ecstatic Hemraj Kissoon, managing director of A.H &L Kissoon said he was pleased to answer the GABA’s call for help a second time and urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the bags, as they seek to go and make Guyana proud in the ring. (Calvin Roberts)
